Grunt

Thursday, April 29, 2004

Hmmm. I watched Taking Lives this morning. Angelina Jolie is hawt. Scorching. Sizzling. Woohoo! The show was promising, but ended up meh. I guessed most of the plot while drooling over her.

Money Shot: Tits. Nuff' said.

Kill Bill 2 was more enjoyable. Particularly loved the references to olde Chinese movies. The grainy texture, soft focus on the background, and the slooow zooming in and fast zooming out for DRAMA. Plus the beard flicking, haha!

Money shot: Fight scene with Elle. Fricken brilliant!
Urgh. Suffer the consequences.

Went to gym yesterday. Haven't been to the gym in five days due to long Anzac weekend so now I am in ache-ville.

Or.

It could just be stress. The only part of me that aches is my butt.

If you knew me, you'd know that my butt muscles ache when I get stressed. Don't ask why. Mayhap I clench them in my sleep when I'm not grinding my teeth.

... i should be sleeping...

but someone in my building is watching TEEVEE at FUCKING SUPER SONIC LEVELS.

SHUT THE FUCK UP STUPID INCONSIDERATE PISSANT!!!!! URGH.

ARGH! It's some raucous Jackie Chan movie i think. Got dong chiang chiang and lots of crashing. ARGH ARGH ARGH. DIE FUCKING WANKERS DIE!
oh and good news, I got back my Transnational Cultures assignments.

Though I dislike/abhore/detest (depending on my mood) Cultural Studies, I have done pretty well for my class. I got 1 HD and 1 D. I missed out on a HD by 3 marks. DAMNIT.
so tired so tired so tired so tired

falling asleep over my readings. Gawd. I do not get these neo-marxist urban geographers. My lecturer is obsessed with architecture as symbolic text, the manifestation of economic capital in the cultural sphere, the colonisation and transformation of the symbolic sphere, the construction of socio-spatial relations by capitalism.

I quote: "Harvey is the man".

Right.

I ended up doing this *blush*
Alamak

Just thinking about the scope of my essays + thesis proposal gives me the "OH MY GOD WHAT WAS I THINKING" feeling.

I could be in Singapore (probably jobless) with my ogre and we could watch movies and stay home and read and be together instead of miles and miles apart and me swamped with -isms and -ologies and -alities. Oh boohoo.

Back to work.

The concert was MINDBLOWING. I knew maybe half the songs, cause I never got around to buying Amnesiac and Kid A, but it was still enough to make my heart stop.

OMG. They played a very nice range of music from their albums, my fav (cos I'm a The Bends kinda girl) was Planet Telex.

I now really really want the Amnesiac album.

Waye: Wish you could have been there! You'd have loved it!

The stage lighting was breathtaking, almost surreal.

I had fallen. Into a whirl of fireflies. A limpid pond. Gazing up into the sky through a shimmer of diamonds. Heads bobbed and swayed in the play of silver, purple and pink strobe, looking like masses of spores. Tiny fireflies rose and bowed towards the stage, then disappeared into the the grey mass; mobile phones capturing a moment of time.
Driving exam = WHOOPS

Note to self: Never jinx it by proclaiming to the world, "I have no problems with reverse parking". Ever.

Nerves got the better of me. My examiner said she thought she'd have to give me CPR. I was nervous in the morning, but alright. During the hour of driving prior to exam, I could not reverse park. Seriously could not. The curse was on. Spent the whole hour getting worse and worse and more and more nervous.

Exam - drove off without a hitch, bumpy road, narrow roads and masses of parked cars nonewithstanding. First maneouvre: Reverse Parking. So I fucked up big time. Came in too close, couldn't correct it.

Jesus Christ. The test was easy otherwise.

I'm just bewildered and a lil embarrassed at the wreck I became. HAHAHAHAA. Ah well. Just have to try it again.
Butterflies in stomach. Driving test in 3 hours. = Nervous

Butterflies in stomach. Radiohead in 10 hours. = Excited

Nervous excitement = stomach pains.

"I'm sick of being frugal! Next week I can starve!"

I sold the extra Radiohead ticket and so I went shopping today! I bought:

1 Mambo kid's size white woollen cardigan $49.95
1 Mambo kid's size long sleeved baseball tee (blue + red w/ yellow trimmings) $20
1 Lonsdale training shorts $24.95
1 pair heeled slippers $19.95

And Ollie and I went to Yum Cha before that. We ate like pigs. We made a mess. We spilled vinegar, almost choked on our xiao long pao in our hurry to eat them and spilled crumbs everywhere. We had xiao long pao, har gao, prawn chee chong fun, yam puffs, scallop wanton, char siew pau, stewed tripe, duck web and yam, egg tarts and tau huay. *burp*

... oh and while I'm at it, read Watchmen. Excellent graphic novel!
Sweet Treats

Yesterday I treated myself to lunch at Wok on Thai with some delicious Beef Pad See Ew (fried kuay teow, Thai style) and I bought a wonderfully rich, delicately scented lavendar body butter and matching soap and a Gary Jules album (Trading Snakeoil for Wolftickets). *beams*

The album is so amazing!

And while at the record shop, I heard Youth Group's See-saw which is a really beautiful song.

Go download! And buy the album! Go now!

Today's my last day of self-imposed R&R. Tomorrow the Werk begins! I'm excited. *lol* I've decided on my essays and have planned the proposals and written the outlines, so I can get to work.

I tried to make beef noodles, Singapore style yesterday. The soup was not as thick and fragrantly spiced as I expected. It turned out just like beef broth. Sigh. Maybe I'll add five-spice to it today and see how it goes.

The beef was excellent though: paper thin slices, marinated in a touch of Chinese rice wine, salt and pepper and cooked with scalding broth poured over the noodles, bean sprouts and beef.

The secret is to slightly freeze the beef first so the knife can get enough "grip" to shave off wisps of beef.

Kel returns tonight, putting an end to my undies-wearing romps around the house. Oh boo. No more loud off-key singing and self-mutterings too. I'll have to speak softly if I need to chide myself.

Tonight I'm gonna be going for FUNK and then for PANCAKES! Ooooooh yeah!
Had my honours seminar class over for dinner last night. It was really nice. It's just five of us and I wanted to get to know them outside of a classroom setting. I reckon if we're gonna be spending the coming year nurturing a 15,000 word baby, we might as well form a support group. Especially after this semester when we're gonna be working in isolation, with (I predict, perhaps on my part anyway) little or no human contact.

Made some simple fare: fried beehoon, chicken satay and duck salad, with some yoghurt dip and flatbread.

We had coronas, a fruity white and an excellent roselle. I of course was red in the face after half a glass of wine. Heehee.

I hope we do this again. They're an intellegent, easy-going bunch, great company to chill with.

Red Neck Entertainment

So I got to see the giant vegetables. There was a pumpkin that weighed 267.5kg or something. Fwoar! I also saw the diving pig, though it was through a throng of people, behind a wire fence 'cos we didn't manage to get into the arena which was packed.

The *best* thing was the MONSTER TRUCKS! YEAH! And freestyle motorcross, bmx stunt biking, THE GLOBE OF DEATH, stunt driving Holden utes and fireworks!

THE GLOBE OF DEATH was this circular wire mesh cage 14feet across (tiny!) in which three men rode their yamahas, DEFYING DEATH.

The monster truck (Sampson) revved a lot and spun around and leap 6 cars (kinda only cleared 3-4 cars, but it was fun to see it crush the cars in).

BMX stunt biking was pretty cool and motorcross was the engine-d version. We saw some amazing stunts.

The stunt driving utes were intense! They sped around revving and drifting. The precision was awesome! There were four of them and they could drive in formation: four bumper to bumper, pairs bumper to front bumper, staggered, and zig zag all while driving round the ring. There was this stunt when they came at each other from the four corners of the track and intersected without slowing down or swerving. Heart-stopping stuff!

Then there was a "play", The Man From Snowy River, which showcased some very nice mustering and horse riding.

Then then, the fireworks, which were beautiful. I love fireworks!!!!

I paid friggin $26 for the tickets cos I don't get concession (sucks ass), but the red neck stuff really made my day. Heehee.
Today I am going to the Easter Show. THE GREATEST SHOW ON EARTH.

There will be sheep and cows and goats and the diving pig. I hear there's also pig racing.

I'm looking forward to the Woolworth's Dome.*FREE FOOD SAMPLES!* The last time I was at the Woolworth's Dome was at the Melbourne Show and Ju and I ate ourselves silly. Getting stuffed on samples is a feat of wonder and a thing of great self-satisfaction.

The thing I want to see most are the giant vegetables. My life is not complete till I see a giant pumpkin or radish. BRING ON THE MUTANT VEGGIES!

Werk Withdrawal.

I promised myself a week of No Work. I told myself I'd sleep, read, lounge, eat, cook and laze. Right now I am sitting at my desk with Harvey's 'The Social Construction of Time & Space' and Braudel's 'The Structures of Everyday Living'.

There are notes penciled into the margins of the Harvey and the Braudel's cracked open to page 60. I did an essay proposal the day before. WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME?? I AM NOT ABUSING THE TEEVEE!

WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY.

I did however, catch Monster yesterday. I quite liked it though I thought the Silby character was way annoying. Charlize still had fractions of moments when she looked utterly beautiful. I was glad Charlize finally got a "real" role, as compared to the filmsy ones in Big Joe Young and what-not.

But the highlight had to be watching the trailer for Taking Lives. OMG ANGELINA JOLIE is the hottest most gorgeous being in the world (apart from Shirley Manson, who is still mine Goddess). But yes, Ol and I were hyperventilating. Make me wonder how we'd live through a whole show. We were also kinda squealing quietly to each other in much excitement. And there was hysterical slapping and kicking of feeties. In short, we succumbed to groupie spasms.

Heehee.

I bloody love k10K. This one made me laugh out loud.

GOOD GOD there's a biological experiment gone horribly wrong in my apartment building! I hear loud hooting and cawing over yonder!!!

Someone get the Bat signal!!!

oh wait.... it's just my neighbour laughing. GOOD GOD woman! Call that a laugh?!

KINKO'S: Nerd Sex Shoppe

OMG OMG! I discovered heaven today! Kinko's is this photocopy and printing franchise just 5 minutes from where I live and they photocopy for 6.5c, about half the cost of photocopying at Uni (11c!). PLUS, they can put credit on any card with a magnetic strip, which saves the cost of a card and the hassle of having another card to add to the 23 in my purse.

I zapped a lot of lovely readings today and found that THEY EVEN SUPPLY ALLIGATOR AND PAPER CLIPS! Oh JOY! It's like stationary porn!
